Good News Project Expands e-CYCLE Program to Include Rechargeable
Battery Recycling
Wausau, WI – Good News Project is excited to announce a new addition to its e-
CYCLE program: starting Friday, September 26, 2025, community members can
now recycle rechargeable batteries at our facility. The service will be available to
the public every Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
This new initiative is possible because of the generous support from the
Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin, which awarded Good News
Project a Wausau Marathon County Impact Grant.
“Electronics are already a huge part of our lives, and rechargeable batteries are one
of the fastest-growing sources of waste,” said Eric Nielsen, e-CYCLING Program
Manager. “By offering a safe, convenient way to recycle them, we’re helping
protect the environment while keeping hazardous materials out of our landfills.”
Here’s what residents need to know:
• Cost: $2.29 per pound (or $4.99/lb for unlabeled or structurally damaged
batteries).
• Accepted: All rechargeable batteries under 300Wh, including those from
cell phones, laptops, cordless phones, power tools, vacuums, cameras, and
more.
• Not accepted: Single-use alkaline batteries (WI DNR recommends placing
them in the trash) and large batteries (300Wh+ such as car or EV batteries).
• Safety tip: Please tape metal terminals with clear tape before drop-off to
reduce fire risk.
Good News Project’s e-CYCLE program has long provided the community with a
reliable, educational, and environmentally responsible way to dispose of unwanted
electronics. This battery recycling expansion continues that tradition of “being the
good for the environment and each other.”
